Touch Point - Sowing Seeds Leads to Harvest

Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop — a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Matt 13:8 NIV

Along with the Inside Out Ministries entourage of five, Bob and I squeezed onto an already crowded subway.

“Ouch,” I said as the door closed on me. The train jerked away and an olive skinned young man with jet black hair had no idea how close he came to having the Pocket Full of Quarters Lady land in his lap. Absorbed by his iPod, he never even looked up as I plopped down beside him.

Talk to him, the Still Small Voice whispered.

I don’t want to bother him, I argued. He’s listening to music.

Talk to him, the Still Small Voice urged.

“Hi,” I sad. “Where are you from?”

“Excuse me?” he said taking off one ear phone. “Were you talking to me?”

“Sorry,” I said. “I know you are listening to music. I was just wondering - where are you from?”

“I’m from Bangladesh,” he smiled.

“You’re a long way from home,” I said. “How long have you been in the US?”

“One day,” he said. “I have to come back every six months or my Green Card expires.”

Domine was a college student majoring in business. He wanted to keep his Green Card current because he hoped to get a Master’s Degree from the US. I also found out he was a Muslim. Eventually, he asked where I was from.

“I’m from Florida. I’m a Christian missionary. We’re in New York to tell people about Christianity.”

Domine gasped, “Just yesterday I sat on a plane next to a woman obsessed with Christianity. She told me all about it and even gave me a Bible. I’ve been thinking about what she said. Now you sit next to me,”

“Oh Domine,” I said excitedly. “It sounds like God really wants you to become a Christian.”

“I was just thinking the same thing,” he said with wonder.

Gary, an Inside Out Ministry team member sat down across from us and I felt his prayers.

“It’s so easy to become a Christian,” I said. I went on to explain everything the woman on the plane had already spent hours telling him. I had no idea how much time I had left on the subway so I gave the abbreviated version of the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. He listened eagerly. By this time, the headphones were completely off.

“Grace is a free gift,” I said. “All you have to do to become a Christian is to believe and ask Jesus to be a part of your life. Would you like to pray to become a Christian right now?”

“I would,” he said.

“Pray after me,” I encouraged. He agreed. Together we prayed, confessing his sins, his belief in Jesus, and his need for Jesus in his life.

“I feel so good,” he said in awe. “I’m sorry but this is my stop.”

“We’re done,” I said, giving him the tract that confirmed what he did. “God’s timing was perfect.”

“Did you hear that?” I said to my fellow team member Gary.

“I did,” he said. “I was praying for you.”

“I know,” I said. “I could feel your prayers."

I don’t think Gary was the only person praying. I think the woman who gave Domine the Bible was also praying. I wish there was a way to tell her that the seeds she planted were harvested only a day later.
