Travel Tip: Bonners Ferry Log Inn
Being in the computer business, the name Log Inn got my attention right away. I had decided to travel Scenic Highway 2 from Glacier National Park in Montana to Spokane, Washington.
The drive was beautiful but there were not many hotel choices. I stopped at several campgrounds but they were emptier than I'm comfortable with.
By 9:00 P.M., I was starting to get nervous. Bob won't go to bed until I'm settled and it was 11:00 P.M. in Jacksonville. We were both ready for me to light somewhere.
Then I saw Log Inn. As you can probably guess, it is in the city of Bonners Ferry. Bonners Ferry is about 30 miles across the Idaho border on Highway 2.
Log Inn is charming. The rooms are beautifully decorated. It really is a log inn, both inside and outside. The TV stand is made from the same logs that the walls are made of.
Log Inn is owned by Jill & David Jurgensen and I enjoyed getting to know them. They showed me a picture of his daughter with her "boss." The "boss" was Bill Gates. It was fun talking a little about the computer business.
They offer a charming continental breakfast with homemade poppy seed bread. You eat outside in an area that is decorated to match the rooms. It is the charm of a Bed and Breakfast and the convenience of a hotel.
They have an excellent gift shop in their lobby. Since this isn't a vacation, I've made a decision not to spend money in all of the quaint places I pass. Their gift shop was a real temptation but I stood firm. This was particularly difficult since they have interesting jewelry. You may remember that jewelry is my shopping weakness.
When I complimented David on the decorations, he said that Jill gets all of the credit for that. He said that he makes sure the plumbing works and she does everything else. Jill is talented.
They talked about how much they enjoy working together. They live right in the Inn. I completely understand. My husband and I love working together. We had worked together for 17 years before my job situation changed and we both miss it. I could tell that they felt blessed to be together. They have been married for 35 years.
The best part of staying here was the price. I spent less money than I have in several nights. The rooms were much nicer than I have stayed in for several nights.
The phone # is 208-276-3986. There are pictures under "Idaho - Bonners Ferry Log Inn" on the Website. If you are ever in this area, I would highly recommend staying here.
